Notes from the Operation Barnabas Meeting May 16, 2017

Dear Members & Friends,
We only had three members in attendance:   Pastor & Marty Morehouse and Dawn Hawk.  Seems everyone has started their summer vacations, but that doesn’t mean we have slowed down with our service projects.  The devotion was about the freedom we have in Christ which prompts us to “love one another as I have loved you…..”
We decided what we are going to serve for fellowship on May 21, Sunday, Armed Forces weekend.  We are ordering a cake, making cookies, and preparing a cheese plate and a fruit bowl.  Pastor will do a special prayer as part of the Divine Service.
A housing complex for homeless Veterans and families called Esperanza En Escalante is accepting all types of clothing, household goods, and furniture for their residents.  We took summer hats and caps, books, and bed sheets (donated by a local motel).  When we have an excess of clothing and the National Guard Armory is full, we now have a secondary place that will receive our donations.  They are located in the area of Wilmot and Golf Links Road.
Attached is a scan of the statistics from the last Stand Down in Pinal County on April 15.  There was a total of 182 Veterans that registered ( 18 women & 164 males).  We handed out 75 care packages, but talked to more than 100 Vets who came to our table.
A Woman Warriors Stand Down is being planned for Sept. 16 at Pima College by the Student Veteran Organization.  Faith Lutheran is going to spearhead the activity which OperationBarnabas is going to sponsor with a resource table.  A question came up about having the Campus Christian Group at the U. of A. work together with the Pima students to carry out this service.  We think it would be a great gesture.
Future dates to put on your calendars include June 6 (packing care packages at 10:00 at the Church); June 13 ( meet at 6:00 A.M. at the Church for the Pima County Stand Down at the Desert Inn); no meeting in July; regular meeting on Aug. 22 at 10:00 at the Church.
Pastor closed the meeting with a prayer.
