The Creed
In the plain form in which the head of the family
shall teach it to his household

The Third Article: Sanctification

“I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.”

What does this mean?

Answer: I believe that by my own reason or strength I cannot believe in Jesus Christ, my Lord, or come to him. But the Holy Spirit has called me through the Gospel, enlightened me with his gifts, and sanctified and preserved me in true faith, just as he calls, gathers, enlightens, and sanctifies the whole Christian church on earth and preserves it in union with Jesus Christ in the one true faith. In this Christian church he daily and abundantly forgives all my sins, and the sins of all believers, and on the last day he will raise me and all the dead and will grant eternal life to me and to all who believe in Christ. This is most certainly true.[1]

Next Meeting: May 10, 2012, 6:00 P.M.

Operation Barnabas members provided a lasagna dinner, complete with salad, bread and dessert, as well as a wonderful fellowship to honor our special guest, English District – LC-MS Bishop Rev. David Stechholz . Thank you to everyone who provided both food and fellowship!

Pastor Morehouse presented our Warning Order and Bible Study. Included in his presentation was a heartfelt description of the treatment of our military who have given the ultimate sacrifice of their lives on behalf of our country and its freedoms, both on the battlefield and as their bodies are transported home to loved ones. The Chaplains escort of remains and readings from the Psalms, as well as the honor provided to them as they return home witnesses the love of our Savior Jesus Christ and the eternal hope we have because of His resurrection and power over death.

May 18, 2010 – Stand Down

Dawn and Rosann will provide assistance at the Stand Down on May 18, and will also help to assemble hygiene bags for the homeless veterans on May 5th. Items needed for the Stand Down include:

Soap, toothbrush, washcloth/hand towel, deodorant, comb, shampoo, tissues, hand sanitizer, razors, contraceptives, sunscreen, female hygiene products.

Honor Flight – May 9, 2010

Cards were signed by everyone in attendance at our April meeting to be provided as “mail call” during the Honor Flight scheduled to leave Tucson on May 9, 2012. The Honor Flight provides World War II veterans with a trip to Washington, DC and the World War II monument. Anyone interested in attending a send-off to these honored vets may contact Rosann for specific information.

                Additional Information

Onita Davis, President of the American Legion Auxiliary advised Operation Barnabas that the MIAP program will be escorting cremains of veterans for internment in Sierra Vista, with full military honor on April 20, 2012. The cremains will depart, with a ceremony, from Adair Funeral Home, Dodge and Speedway, Tucson, AZ, at 9:00 a.m. All those interested in this ceremony are welcome.

Dawn Hawk will attend the Arizona Coalition for Military Families Symposium on June 13 and 14. The symposium will be held at the Desert Willow Conference Center in Phoenix. This is a statewide symposium in support of service members, veterans and their families. She has applied for scholarship funds this program.

Nancy Schultz provided a flyer for a Sun City Vistoso concert by singer/songwriter Joni Harms on Monday, April 30, 2012 at 7:00 P.M. in the Social Hall Auditorium. There is no admission, however, contributions to defray costs are welcome, with any net proceeds to be donated to the Wounded Warriors Project. The flyer will be posted on the Operation Barnabas bulletin board.

Commander Davis (Post 132) supplied a flyer for the American Legion Oro Valley Post 132 Annual Charity Golf Tournament to be held August 25, 2012 at The View Golf Course, Sun City-Vistoso. This charity event raises funds to benefit troops and families of the adopted local Army Guard Units. Anyone interested in competing or helping at this event is welcome to do so.

The Second Petition

“Thy kingdom come.”

What does this mean?

Answer: To be sure, the kingdom of God comes of itself, without our prayer, but we pray in this petition that it may also come to us.

How is this done?

Answer: When the heavenly Father gives us his Holy Spirit so that by his grace we may believe his holy Word and live a godly life, both here in time and hereafter forever.[1]
