OB Meeting 9/19/24

Warning Order and opening prayer

Pastor

Old business

  1. Dawn brought cards for the group to sign and send to Chaplain Bell and Chaplain Nava.

New business

  1. The Tucson Veterans’ Stand-down is still tentatively scheduled for 12 March 2025.

Tucson Veterans Serving Veterans (TVSV) is still working on securing a venue for the Stand-down. Expect an update from the October TVSV meeting.

  1. Esperanza en Escalante (EEE)

Marty, Vicar, and Boyd recently made a drop-off of men’s clothing to EEE. EEE staff told us that they are now accepting donations of women’s and children’s clothing.

  1. Veterans’ Day

OB members agreed that we will ask that Rancheros Market in Catalina (next to the former location of Claire’s Cafe) to host our event. To that end, the group asked Boyd to:

  • Meet with the owner of Rancheros and make the request
    • also, verify that Rancheros will have food items that would be appropriate for breakfast (e.g., burritos) – we will hand out vouchers to Veterans as in past years
  • Locate (or purchase if/as needed) a sandwich board to place near the highway on Veterans’ Day
    • also, ask a member of our congregation to assist in designing the sign for the sandwich board

Dawn will conduct a pickle and jam sale at the church on October 6. Boyd will withdraw $50 from the OB account for change, and assist in the sale at the morning and evening services.

  1. TRICARE

Pastor brought TRICARE to the group’s attention. From the website:

“TRICARE is the uniformed services health care program for active duty service members (ADSMs), active duty family members (ADFMs), National Guard and Reserve members and their family members, retirees and retiree family members, survivors, and certain former spouses worldwide.

TRICARE brings together the health care resources of the Military Health System—such as military hospitals and clinics—with a network of civilian health care professionals, institutions, pharmacies, and suppliers to foster, protect, sustain, and restore health for those entrusted to their care.”

We will post a flier about TRICARE on the OB bulletin board at the church. OB members are encouraged to share this information with Veterans, who may be unaware of this benefit.

  1. Arizona Coalition for Military Families (ACMF)

ACMF hosts an annual symposium. We would like to find an OB member who would be willing to go in April 2025 (2 days in Phoenix). We will have a reminder at the next meeting.

Financial

Marty reports that OB has $2,615.89 in our account. There has been no activity since our last meeting.

Other business

A church member’s nephew is at Marine Corps Boot Camp at Parris Island. We will sign and send a card at the next OB meeting.

Next meeting

Next meeting will be October 24.

Closing prayer

Vicar
