Pastor Morehouse
The Rev. Dr. Michael Morehouse was born and reared in Toledo, OH. He is a graduate of Adrian College (1987, BBA, Management and German, Magna Cum Laude), Concordia Theological Seminary (1998, MDiv, Historical Theology), and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (2017, DMin, Pastoral Ministry). Pastor Morehouse is Senior Pastor of Catalina Lutheran Church, having served at Christ’s Altar here since July 12, 1998.
Prior to entering the Office of the Holy Ministry, Dr. Morehouse was a financial consultant, and before that, spent several years in retail management. Throughout that time, he served as a Signal Corps enlisted soldier and second lieutenant; then became an Army aviator (1LT – MAJ), and finally as Chaplain, US Army, retiring in 2006 after a tour in Iraq, with 23 years of military service. He currently serves as the 180th Field Artillery Regimental Association Chaplain.
Pastor Morehouse served as Vice-President of the Campus Christian Center of the University of Arizona (2007-2018); on the Board of Regents for Concordia University, Irvine, CA (2010-2016); and was Circuit Visitor for the Southern Arizona Circuit of the English District of the LCMS (2019-2022). In 2023, Dr. Morehouse served as a visitation team member of the Association of Theological Schools for their accreditation review of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, MO.
He continues to serve as a member of the LCMS Operation Barnabas Advisory Group. He served as English District Vice-President (4th- 2nd) from 2022 – 2025. He continues serving in the English District as 1st Vice President of the English District of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod as of this year, 2025.
Pastor von Hindenburg
Rev Bruce von Hindenburg began his ministry in Coarsegold, CA, at Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church in November 1997. He served there until April 2010 when he accepted a call to serve as sole pastor at The Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Inglewood, CA. In addition to pastoral duties at Good Shepherd, he also served on the Board of Directors for Pacific Lutheran High School and taught Theology to grades 9-12 for 8 years.
He resigned this call, effective December 31, 2020, and relocated to Catalina, Arizona. Rev. von Hindenburg remains on the LCMS pastoral roster, meaning he is eligible for a call. He is an active member at Catalina Lutheran Church and provides pulpit supply ministry in the Arizona South Circuit area. In 2025 the Arizona South Circuit voted him in as South Circuit Visitor. He will serve in this role through 2028. In 2024, Catalina Lutheran Church called him to be our Assitant Pastor. He accepted. In that Called role, he serves the members of the congregation performing duties that resemble that of a Parish Assistant, Ordained.
A second career pastor, von Hindenburg worked in the financial field for more than 25 years prior to beginning ministerial duties. He is a proud graduate of the University of Arizona (1974, BA Public Administration) and an alum of the business graduate school at USC (1978 International finance and administration). He studied for the ministry at both Concordia Seminary in St. Louis and Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, IN.
He is married to Karina Lindsey-von Hindenburg. They have no children, but do spoil their beloved cats, Aristotle, Sophia, and Thalia.
Deacon Tom
Deacon Tom Honebrink was raised in Mayer, MN where he was blessed to attend Zion Lutheran School and Mayer Lutheran High School. While attending Concordia College-St Paul he met his to-be wife Diana. He and Diana are privileged to be raising their three children – Max, Athena and Beatrice. Deacon Tom has been honored to serve on district, circuit and congregational boards and offices throughout his life. He was installed as deacon to Catalina Lutheran Church in January 2014 and is also currently serving on the Board of Directors for the English District of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod.
Deaconess Deb
Deaconess Deb Seng was baptized on January 28, 1989, confirmed at Catalina Lutheran Church (CLC) on May 27, 2012 and commissioned as a lay deaconess at CLC on July 10, 2022. Raised in the American evangelical church, she and her husband Dave, are grateful for salvation by grace alone, by faith alone, through Christ alone. And they rejoice in God’s redeeming power at work within their own lives, and in the lives of their children as a blended family. Deaconess Deb has a background in providing faith-based counseling, and developing teams to create and deliver social service programs. She is passionate about building and strengthening the Body of Christ at Catalina—in service to God and to one another.
Deacon Dave
Deacon Dave Seng is a lecturer at the University of Arizona College of Information Science and has edited two books relating to the history of technology, open-source software, and the commerce of information. He also has an interest in philosophical theology and Christian apologetics. Currently Dave is a DA candidate in Philosophy at Harrison Middleton University. Dave serves as a Deacon at Catalina Lutheran Church. He has four children, a beautiful daughter-in-law, and is married to Deb Seng, the princess of his heart.
Deacon Tim
Deacon Timothy Dinkel is the son of an Army LC-MS Chaplain and later Pastor (in civilian life), and was raised with church music being a focus among parents both having classical music training and involvement in the music of the church. Upon relocating to AZ, he met his wife Stacia, and they were blessed with two girls, Emily and Lydia, where he continues to work full-time as a civil engineer for a local water provider in Tucson. Church and choral music have always been a focus in his life since childhood, and he continues to participate in semi-professional classical choirs in Tucson, as well as lead, direct, cantor, and compose music for Catalina Lutheran Church. He was installed as a Deacon of Music in January 2024 at Catalina Lutheran Church.
Deacon Roni
Dr. Roni Grad is a retired pediatric pulmonologist (lung specialist). He chairs the Life Team, serves on council as Director of Child and Youth education, leads Sunday school openings and teaches occasional classes, ushers, and assists with altar guild duties at the Wednesday midweek DS. He completed the lay-diaconate training program of the Lutheran Servanthood School in December, 2023 and was commissioned Deacon by the congregation on Misericordias Domini Sunday, April 14, 2024, with a sanctity of life focus. Roni serves as Life Coordinator for the English District (LCMS). He also serves on the Lutherans For Life Board of Directors as secretary, chair of the Verba Vitae (academic Lutheran sanctity of life journal) steering committee, and member of the position statements committee. He recently completed service as President of the Arizona-South Circuit Forum. In the Tucson community outside CLC, he serves with his wife Dr. Judy Pugh on the board of Family First Pregnancy Care Center and Family Diaper Bank, Oracle, Arizona, where he also volunteers. He meets regularly with the Tucson for Life coalition.
Vicar Decker 2025- 2026
Vicar Tyler Decker was born in Melbourne, FL. He lived in Florida until he graduated from college. As a child he spent his free time playing games with his family, playing with Legos and swimming. However, in High School he joined a rowing team and the choir, making free time a rare occurrence.
In 2020 Tyler began his studies at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, FL. He was pursuing a double major in Finance and Financial Planning, graduating in 2023. During the breaks between semesters, he spent time in Grapevine, TX, where his family now lives. While in Texas he started throwing axes, but he is not very good at it. The summer following his graduation, he started taking classes at Concordia Theological Seminary of Fort Wayne, as part of the MDiv program. Tyler has been given the honor of serving as the vicar at Catalina Lutheran Church in Tucson, AZ for the 2025-2026 academic year. Tyler is not married and has one older brother who works as an engineer in Orlando, FL.
Vicar Hartman 2024-2025
Vicar Travis Hartman was born in Glendive, MT. He lived in Montana until his junior year of High School and enjoyed hiking, camping, and exploring Big Sky Country as well as the neighboring states with his family. He spent most of his adult life hiking, camping and exploring different regions of the United States and overseas.
At thirty-seven years of age, he started taking classes online at Arizona State University pursuing a double major in History and Religious Studies. After graduating in 2022 he was accepted into Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne with the intent of obtaining a Master of Divinity degree. While taking classes at the seminary a mutual friend introduced him to his wife, Monica. They met in December of 2022 and were married in August the following year. After moving to Arizona, they gave birth to their son Elijah in October of 2024.
Vicar Spangler 2023-2024
Vicar Isaac Spangler was born in Lancaster, OH where he was
home-schooled until High School. His family enjoyed being outdoors and has raised quail, partridge, rabbits, and racing pigeons — his dad
still races them. He went to college at Hillsdale College in Hillsdale
MI, originally intending to major in Bio-Chem and Music, but, instead, graduated in 2021 with a B.A. in Religion.
At Hillsdale, he met his wife, Katie, they were married in 2021 after his first quarter at the seminary. They have since been blessed with a son, Basil, who was born on their first wedding anniversary. Vicar Spangler is currently serving his vicarage year at Catalina Lutheran Church in Tucson, AZ. Afterward, he will return to the seminary to complete his MDiv.
Vicar Strawn 2022-2023
Former Vicar, now Pastor Gabriel Strawn grew up west of Minneapolis in Spring Lake Park, Minnesota. He graduated from Bethany Lutheran College in 2019 with a BA in History, where he met his wife Jennifer. They were married in 2020, and have two children, a daughter and a son. Aurora was born in 2021, and Kirby was born in 2023 while Gabirel was serving Catalina Lutheran as Vicar. In 2024, Gabriel received a call to be pastor of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Gorham, Maine, where he has been since he was ordained in good order on August 17th, 2024. In his free time, Gabriel enjoys games of all kinds, from sports to camp games to board, card, and video games, and sharing this love of games with his family, members of the church, and anyone who will listen to an impassioned rant. “I remember my time in Tucson with the utmost fondness. My son was named “Kirby,” meaning “settlement around a church,” because my wife and I experienced such an earnest outpouring of love and support while she was preparing to give birth thousands of miles away from our friends and family. Catalina Lutheran Church is a special place, full of the most loving saints, a place where a man learns many lessons to aid him in his future ministry.
