Meeting Minutes for January 27, 2015.
Members Present: Pastor Morehouse, Vicar Craig, Marty Morehouse, Larry Klages, Paul & Donna Lindberg, Dawn Hawk
Pastor provided the devotion on returning young soldiers who have a difficult time with job seeking and finding solace in the regular routine of daily living. That is why it is so important that we are available with physical support and the good news of a Christ-centered life. Pastor left after the devotion to make a hospital visit.
The group is going to take the advice of Wheat Ridge and approach banks in this area to inquire about C.R.A. (Community Re-investment Act) to see if we qualify for outreach funds that could be used to support the Military in our area. Dawn will cover Bank of the West, Canyon Community Bank, and Wells Fargo; Vicar will cover Chase Bank; Paul & Donna will approach Bank of America. Dawn has received three leads from Wheat Ridge on possible grant funding from Home Depot, Newman’s Own, and the Woodruff Foundation. These leads will be pursued.
Lindberg’s nephew has been stationed to an Air Force Base in Albequerque for two years. We had adopted him in 2013 and had sent him a care package. Paul & Donna will get his address and we can correspond with him again.
Vicar Craig reviewed his agenda for the Operation Barnabas National Conference in San Antonio on February 9-10 and stated which break-out sessions he was interested in attending. Brittni Koosman will be the other delegate in attendance. Pastor will also be in attendance February 11-12 to serve on the O.B. Board.
Jean is helping us set up another Operation Barnabas connection to our Church web site. It will be more direct and give contact information to those Military who are in need of urgent care or advice.
Further discussion involved the possibility of obtaining a memorial plaque for those CLC Veterans who have died in the faith. Paul Lindberg is following up on pricing from a local vendor of plaques, and he will get some ideas and quotes.
The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 24 at 10:00 A.M. Vicar Craig will give a report of his attendance at the Conference and share his findings with us.
The meeting was adjourned with a roll call of those soldiers who have given the ultimate sacrifice. This was followed with a prayer.
P.S. I just received an e-mail from Wheat Ridge with a listing of other Lutheran Churches who have applied for grants for the Military. I will pass this information to you in an attachment.
