Pastor opened the meeting with a devotion about soldiers who feel like failures, outcasts, victims, etc. This is where Operation Barnabas can provide the ministry of Christ’s reconciliation and hope. Jesus uses us to be His love in the world, the world of the Veteran.
Those present at the meeting were Pastor & Marty Morehouse and Dawn Hawk.
No known deployments are happening at this time.
We discussed our participation in the up-coming Hope Fest (Stand Down) on Saturday, Oct. 22. We will be packing 75 adult care packages and 25 children’s bags. It will take place at the Kino Stadium from 9:00-2:00 P.M. I have requested 2 tables and room for 10 volunteers. Bag-packing will take place on Oct. 11 at CLC. 50 Bibles are being ordered and Candy Brockey is making the laminated bookmarks.
We have received three requests for assistance this summer–all within our vicinity. One was for a deposit on an apartment, another was assistance with food, diapers, household supplies, furniture and moving expenses. The 3rd request is from a Vet who needs to fix the A/C in his Jeep. This one is not finalized as of today. Support for the 1st two requests amounted to around $300 and lots of donations from the Congregation.
The Methodist Church wants to help us with our care packages or any knitted items that would benefit Veterans and their families. I will be writing a note for their Church bulletin that explains how they can assist us. We had opportunity to donate two truckloads of yarn to their craft and sewing group.
We will be writing a $25,000 Grant from LCEF that will provide funding for our outreach services for the next two and one-half years. The deadline is Aug. 30 so Marty & I will have to hustle to get this completed. Pray for our efforts.
Our next meeting will be Sept. 20 at 10:00 A.M. at CLC.
Pastor closed the meeting with a prayer for all the men and women of our Armed Services.
