Here are a couple photos of the Stand Down on April 15 at the National Guard Armory in Florence. O.B. [Operation Barnabas) served at least 50 adults and 25 children. Twenty-five Bibles were given out along with 30 pairs of Sunglasses, 20 reading glasses, and 400 homemade cookies. Those volunteers from Catalina Lutheran were Donna & Paul Lindberg, Bruce Helenbart, Brian Rolfe, & Dawn Hawk. Four members from Faith Lutheran also volunteered to help at the O.B. table.
The need for assistance doesn’t go away during Holy Week and Easter. We had three calls for help from Veterans–one for help with a utility bill, another for food because they were out of money and a third one was a disabled Vet who needed help with a deposit on his apartment. Moose Creighton from Ascension Lutheran helped us out by supplying extra food cards for the Veteran. We are so grateful for this assistance.
I had a scholarship to attend the Military Consortium in Phoenix April 19 & 20. There were 600 attendees and the break-out sessions were very inspirational and emotional at times. John McCain and a blind Veteran gave the main addresses both days. I came back with many resources, free care package bags, and connections to other faith-based groups. Dan Morehouse was also in attendance, so we had a chance to chat between sessions.
Just a reminder that we have a regular meeting on Tues., May 16 at 10:00. We are sponsoring the Fellowship at Church on May 21 in honor of Armed Forces Day on May 20. The next Stand Down is June 13 at the Desert Inn (formerly the Days Inn).
Continuing with His Work,
Dawn
